ECECP II Flagship Project
This public event, co-hosted by ECECP and China Electricity Council, is to disseminate the findings from ECECP II’s flagship project, Investment and Technology Planning for Net-zero Carbon Infrastructure under the business component of ECECP II.
The project was built on the study of the first ECECP collaboration entitled: ‘ENTSO-E Grid Planning Modelling Showcase for China Report’ which focused on using the ENTSO-E methodology for a Cost Benefit Analysis in grid planning processes in China, and expanded upon the concept of an integrated energy system approach to highlight the impacts of an integrated system modelling approach.
Recognizing the potential benefits of renewable energy integration, the study explores synergies and opportunities by integrating multiple energy sectors. By adopting an integrated approach, the potential for enhanced sector coupling is unlocked, thereby facilitating the seamless integration of renewable energy sources, and maximizing overall system efficiency.
Through this comprehensive analysis, this study sought to provide valuable insights into optimizing system planning processes and achieving a more sustainable and resilient energy future.
As the findings show, an integrated energy system approach can enhance efficiency, promote renewable energy integration, improve flexibility and resilience, enable sector coupling and electrification, optimize costs, and support coordinated policy and planning efforts, all of which contribute to achieving decarbonization targets more effectively.
